Roof rails: what to look at when choosing

Our tuning store offers roof rails made from an aluminum profile. The main differences are:

• For longitudinal roof rails
  • Mounting type: plastic or steel brackets. The first are designed for loads up to 60–70 kg, the second up to 150 kg.
  • Appearance: black powder-coated or chrome. What to choose is a matter of taste (sales statistics show chrome models are more popular).
  • Manufacturer: we offer auto accessories from Turkish brands and our own production. Our in-house products are in no way inferior to foreign analogs and often surpass them in reliability. We produce roof rails with finishes "polished aluminum", "matte black", and "metallic", with plastic or metal mounting feet. The maximum permissible load is 70–80 kg for plastic feet and up to 150 kg for metal feet.
  • If you choose the Skyport type, pay attention so you don’t end up with a counterfeit:
    • Original Skyport is packaged in a branded box with all certificate markings and patented company logos;
    • On original rails, the rubber insert is pressed into the profile and has no wrinkles;
    • Comes with sealing compound.
• For crossbars
  • Availability of a metal key (for reliability and easier removal);
  • Model type: make sure it matches your requirements;
  • Material: we recommend buying roof bars made only of aluminum.

How to install roof rails

On most vehicles, roof rails are mounted simply with bolts into factory mounting points. This is considered an easy installation, so there is not much to describe. However, there are some vehicles with more complex installation. Below are the key nuances for these cars (for more details, contact our managers and request an installer consultation). So:

Citroen Berlingo 1996-2008 or Peugeot Partner

For the version with plastic feet, there are two options at different prices: adhesive installation (a cheaper option) and installation on special brackets (a more expensive option). For Skyport longitudinal rails and rails with metal feet, special brackets are included in the kit. For crossbars, brackets must be purchased separately.

Citroen Nemo, Fiat Fiorino, Peugeot Bipper

This vehicle has two bolt holes per foot, but only one is used (the second is for original rails costing over $300). Special pads are placed into the channel, and the rail is then bolted on over them. This applies to both longitudinal rails and crossbars.

Fiat Nuovo Doblo 2010+ and Opel Combo 2012-

As described above, there are two holes, but only one is used. Because the rail end has a long, complex rectangular shape, it does not sit tightly in the round factory recess.

Citroen Jumpy 2007+, Peugeot Expert 2007+, Fiat Scudo 2007-2015

Installation is not difficult, but there is one nuance: the kit includes special clips. They are inserted into the factory U-shaped bends, after which the rails are simply bolted on.

Ford Connect

Installation is not difficult. The rear foot is self-clamping (since there is no factory rear hole).

Ford Custom

See Fiat Doblo 2010+; the installation is the same.

Hyundai H1 H200 H300 Starex, Volkswagen T4, Nissan Qashqai, Kia Soul

Adhesive installation of mounting plates, after which the rail is bolted on.

Renault Kangoo

The middle foot is self-clamping and is not bolted on.
