Mercedes news: the inflatable belt
We present you the latest news from Mercedes. In the near future, the largest automobile concern is to equip production models with new inflatable seat belts. First of all, this option will be available to owners of the Mercedes S-class sedan or, rather, rear seat passengers. And it will be possible to purchase the innovation as early as 2013.
Mercedes-Benz came to the conclusion that seat belts can be used as airbags back in 2009. Their operation will only occur in a severe accident. The accessories themselves are multi-layer belts, which, at the time of a serious collision, will be automatically inflated by a gas generator, which will be signaled by car electronics. In this case, the belts will increase in width by 3 times, due to which increased pressure on the chest will not be created and the risk of serious injuries will decrease.
This novelty is called "Beltbag". And, according to representatives of Mercedes, it will be most in demand in the developing car markets of the world, and not in Europe. Such innovative auto tuning , as we have already said, will be available so far only for the flagship S-class sedan (optional). By the end of 2013, the automobile concern plans to offer a novelty for tuning cars of its other models.
It is also reliably known that Mercedes-Benz does not plan to equip the front seats of its cars with seat belts. In addition, such tuning of cars is new only for the European market - in America, the Ford Explorer crossover is already equipped with inflatable belts.
