Body kit tuning: spoiler and rear wing
Tuning body kits are not only a striking addition to a car’s exterior, they also perform a number of useful functions, including improving aerodynamics. For example, a spoiler and a wing are commonly referred to as an “aerodynamic kit”.
Wing
This is a streamlined car accessory that looks like a wing. It’s important to buy this kind of tuning only for a specific car make/model (don’t experiment with universal products—there’s often more harm than benefit). Correct installation of the body kit is also essential:
- wing for a sedan — should be installed at the highest point of the trunk lid;
- wing for hatchbacks and wagons — best mounted on the roof edge;
- aerodynamic kit for a “coupe” body — most often installed on the trunk.
Most importantly: after installing body parts that affect aerodynamics, test them carefully, because improper installation or low-quality accessories can make your car unstable at high speeds.
Spoiler
This is a car accessory with one side integrated into the body and the other streamlined by airflow. This element has many names as well (depending on where it’s installed): visor, deflector, aerodynamic wing, etc.).
A spoiler can be installed in different areas of the body: above the windshield, on the trunk, at the front and rear of the car, and even under the underbody. Besides improving handling, a tuning body kit also performs other useful functions (for example, it helps prevent the rear or windshield from getting dirty).
