The nitrous oxide system is one of the most obscure ways to tune a car, or rather a little-known one, since everyone heard about it very well from the movies, but to this day it remains the most obscure way of tuning.

How nitrous oxide works

The principle of operation is that a substance that contains nitrous oxide, along with fuel, enters the engine, and causes such processes as:

• The temperature of the air that enters the engine decreases and at the same time the density of the mixture entering it increases.
• The percentage of oxygen in the mixture that enters the engine increases.
• The rate of combustion of the combustible mixture increases.

Increase in engine power

Everyone knows the principle of operation of the engine, so we will omit this and go straight to the principle of increasing power. In order for the engine power to increase, it is necessary to allocate more energy for the same cycle of operation. To do this, it is necessary that a larger amount of the combustible mixture burns.

The combustion process requires oxygen, and, as mentioned above, with the use of nitrous oxide, the amount of oxygen that enters with each engine cycle increases. Therefore, burning more fuel releases more energy.

How does nitrous oxide enter the engine

Systems that use nitrous oxide differ in how the nitrous oxide enters the engine. According to the principle of nitrous oxide injection, systems are divided into the following types:

• Dry system. In such systems, the fuel that is needed in order to obtain an increased level of power enters through the injectors, and as a result, the fuel does not reach the intake manifold.
• Wet system. In such systems, the nitrous oxide supply is carried out simultaneously with the fuel, and the supply is carried out in the same place. Therefore, the intake manifold becomes wet from the fuel that enters it.
• Direct injection system. With this method, the flow of nitrous oxide occurs along with the fuel into each engine fuel supply hole through the nozzles. Such a system is considered the most powerful.

Using this type of tuning allows you to feel the full power of your car, but it has not yet become widespread due to the difficulty of filling cylinders with nitrous oxide, which is sold in pharmacies only by prescription, as it is considered a psychotropic substance. And so, you can buy gas stations from companies and refuel with its help.
