Peugeot 3008 of the second generation (factory index P84) is a crossover that, in 2016, turned the modest first-generation “semi-minivan” into one of Europe’s most noticeable SUVs. It received the EMP2 platform, the digital i-Cockpit instrument panel, and the title “European Car of the Year 2017,” and it was produced all the way until 2023. Today it’s a popular vehicle on the used market, so we break down everything that matters to an owner and a buyer: dimensions and trunk, engines and gearboxes, what the 2020 facelift changed, what to look at when buying used, what replaced it in the third generation, and which accessories truly fit.

Quick overview of the second generation

Peugeot announced the new 3008 in May 2016, with the public premiere taking place at the Paris Motor Show in September of the same year. Series production started in October 2016, and sales in Europe began in January 2017. The model is built on the PSA group’s modular EMP2 platform, the same one used by the Peugeot 308 and the seven-seat 5008.

Compared with the first generation (2008–2016), the new model was radically different: instead of a rounded body with minivan cues, it became a classic crossover with a high hood line, a vertical grille, and LED lighting. In March 2017, the 3008 received the “European Car of the Year” (European Car of the Year) title. The model went through one facelift—in 2020—and stayed on the production line until 2023, when it was replaced by the third generation.

Dimensions and trunk

ParameterPeugeot 3008 II (P84)
Length4 447 mm
Width (without mirrors)1 840 mm
Height1 620 mm
Wheelbase2 675 mm
Trunk (floor in upper position)520 l
Trunk (floor in lower position)591 l
Maximum with seats foldedup to 1 670 l
Plug-in hybrid trunk395 l

The trunk floor is height-adjustable: in the upper position it sits flush with the threshold, and in the lower position it adds another 71 liters. The front passenger seatback folds down, so long items can be carried in the cabin. In plug-in hybrids the trunk is smaller—part of the underfloor space is taken up by hybrid system equipment, and for such versions separate mats are sometimes needed.

Interior and i-Cockpit

The main highlight of the interior is the i-Cockpit layout: a small steering wheel flattened at the top and bottom, above which—rather than through which—the driver sees a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with configurable display modes. Before the facelift, an 8-inch touchscreen sat in the center, with a row of “piano” keys underneath for quick access to functions. The front seats are well contoured; in the rear there is enough space for two adults, but the optional panoramic roof takes away a bit of headroom.

There is no all-wheel drive in the regular versions—it appeared only in the Hybrid4 plug-in hybrids. Instead, some trims had the Grip Control system: a rotary traction-mode selector for snow, mud, and other slippery surfaces. It works through the front-wheel-drive traction control system and helps on dirt roads or snowy shoulders, but it doesn’t turn the crossover into an off-roader.

Engines and transmissions

All engines in the 3008 II are turbocharged. The lineup changed over time: the early 1.6-liter engines gave way to newer ones, and hybrids appeared toward the end.

Hybrid4 (plug-in hybrid)300 hpe-EAT8all-wheel drive, up to 59 km on electric

Automatics on early cars are six-speed; later the eight-speed EAT8 became the main one. Both plug-in hybrids have a 13.2 kWh traction battery; in the Hybrid4 a second electric motor sits on the rear axle, which is why this version is the only all-wheel-drive second-generation 3008 (0–100 km/h in about 6 seconds). We explained in detail how mild, full, and plug-in hybrids differ in the article about types of hybrid cars.

Facelift of 2020

The updated 3008 was shown on September 1, 2020. Visually, most changes are at the front:

  • a frameless grille that “flows” into the bumper;
  • new LED headlights and vertical daytime running lights shaped like “fangs,” in the style of the Peugeot 208;
  • rear Full LED lamps with the “lion claw” signature and sequential turn signals (depending on trim level);
  • new body colors.

Inside, a 10-inch touchscreen appeared, the 12.3-inch digital cluster got better contrast, and top versions received the Night Vision night-vision system: an infrared camera detects pedestrians and animals at a distance of up to 200–250 meters and displays the image on the instrument panel. After the update, the technical lineup focused on the 1.2 PureTech 130, 1.6 PureTech 180, the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 diesel, and two plug-in hybrids. A practical point for owners: some accessories (mats, wind deflectors) are made separately for pre-facelift and facelift cars or for hybrid versions—check the model years and modification in the product card.

What to check when buying a used 3008

Petrol 1.2 PureTech: timing belt in oil

The three-cylinder PureTech uses a timing belt that runs in an oil bath. With low-quality or overdue oil, the belt swells and crumbles, and its particles can clog the oil pickup screen—oil pressure drops, and in advanced cases the brake booster vacuum pump can also be affected. In the UK, Peugeot recommends changing the belt every 6 years or 60,000 miles (about 100,000 km). Stellantis acknowledged the issue: in Europe, for earlier generations of the PureTech 1.0 and 1.2, an extended warranty of up to 10 years or 180,000 km applies for repairs due to excessive oil consumption or premature belt wear—provided servicing is performed according to the schedule. When buying such a 3008, ask for the service history, documents confirming belt replacement, and oil with the manufacturer’s approval.

BlueHDi diesels: AdBlue and the particulate filter

All diesel 3008 II models have an AdBlue system, and its pump and injector tend to clog and fail. The test drive should be long: the system activates only once the engine is warmed up, and a sign of malfunction is a warning on the cluster and reduced power. The diesel particulate filter clogs on cars that have spent their whole life in the city—it regenerates at highway speeds.

Transmissions, electronics, roof

  • The automatic is naturally a bit unhurried, but sharp jolts and unusual noises during shifts are a reason for diagnostics.
  • The multimedia system can freeze and lag; check the screen, camera, and smartphone connectivity.
  • Panoramic roof: stains on the headliner and traces of moisture near the rear-view mirror indicate leaks.
  • Plug-in hybrid: check the charging port and cable, and battery capacity via diagnostics.

The fewest surprises usually come from the 1.6 PureTech 180 with a timing chain and the EAT8 automatic, as well as the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel for those who do a lot of highway driving.

What came as a replacement: the third generation

The third 3008 was unveiled on September 12, 2023, with sales starting in February 2024. It is built on the new Stellantis STLA Medium platform and became a completely different vehicle: a fastback body (coupe crossover), length 4 540 mm, wheelbase 2 739 mm, and inside—a curved 21-inch panoramic screen that combines the instruments and multimedia.

  • E-3008 — an electric vehicle: a 73 kWh battery (around 525 km WLTP), a Long Range version with a 96.9 kWh battery—up to 700 km, and an all-wheel-drive Dual Motor—320 hp.
  • Hybrid 136 — a 48 V mild hybrid with a 1.2-liter engine and a six-speed robot.
  • Plug-in Hybrid 195 — a 1.6-liter engine, a 21 kWh battery, and a seven-speed robot.

Body parts and most accessories from the second generation do not fit the new 3008—for it there is a separate section for Peugeot 3008 2024+ tuning.

Tuning and accessories for Peugeot 3008 II

For 2016–2023 vehicles, we have a dedicated catalog — Peugeot 3008 2016–2023 tuning. Most often owners choose:

  • Mats.EVA cabin mats and a trunk mat keep water and snow in the “cells” and are easy to wash out; for hybrid versions and the facelift, verify the modification.
  • Wind deflectors.Window deflectors let you ventilate the cabin in the rain; there are stick-on versions with a chrome molding and in-channel options.
  • Roof crossbars. Most 3008 II models have factory integrated roof rails; for them you select crossbars and a roof rack with the required length and a lock.
  • Side steps.Aluminum side steps protect the lower part of the doors and make it easier to access the roof cargo.
  • Chrome and protection. A stainless rear bumper protector preserves paint during trunk loading; door-handle covers and moldings are in the chrome covers section.

We deliver via Nova Poshta throughout Ukraine; orders from 15 000 ₴ — free of charge by our own transport.

Frequently asked questions

The second generation of the Peugeot 3008 (P84) was produced from October 2016 to 2023, with sales in Europe starting in January 2017. In 2020, the model underwent a facelift, and in 2023 it was replaced by the third generation.
Only in the 300 hp Hybrid4 plug-in hybrid, where the second electric motor drives the rear axle. All other versions are front-wheel drive; some of them have Grip Control, which improves traction in snow and mud, but it is not all-wheel drive.
A frameless grille, new LED headlights with fang-shaped daytime running lights, Full LED taillights, a 10-inch touchscreen instead of 8, and the Night Vision night-vision system in top versions.
The least risky is the petrol 1.6 PureTech 180 with a timing chain and EAT8 automatic. The 1.2 PureTech 130 is economical, but it requires a flawless service history because of the wet timing belt. The 1.5 BlueHDi 130 diesel is suitable for those who drive a lot on the highway.
520 liters with the floor in the upper position and 591 liters in the lower position, up to 1,670 liters with the rear seats folded. Plug-in hybrids have a smaller trunk — 395 liters.
Mostly no. The third generation is built on a different STLA Medium platform and has a different body, so floor mats, wind deflectors, roof crossbars and trim pieces are selected separately for it.
