Peugeot 308 SW is a Golf-class wagon that on the used market is now found in two generations: the second (T9, 2014–2021, 2017 facelift) and the third (P5, since 2021). In August 2025, Peugeot unveiled a facelift of the third generation: a new front end with split headlamps and an illuminated emblem, and a range with a mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and the electric E-308 SW. Below is how to tell the generations apart, what changed for 2025, and what to check before buying a used car.

Which generations of Peugeot 308 SW there are
The 308 SW wagon has existed since the first generation (T7, 2007–2013), but on today’s used-car market people mostly look for two newer ones. Both are built on the EMP2 platform and are produced in France, but they have different bodies, lighting, and interiors—parts are not interchangeable between them.

What to know about the second-generation 308 SW (T9)
The second-generation 308 hatchback was shown in May 2013, and the SW wagon debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014. That same year, the 308 won the “European Car of the Year” title. At launch, the SW’s trunk was called one of the largest in the class—610 L.
In 2017, the model was updated with a new hood, bumper, and grille. Later, an 8-speed EAT8 automatic appeared in the lineup, and in 2020 a digital i-Cockpit instrument cluster arrived. T9 production ended in May 2021. An important detail for selecting parts and accessories: pre-facelift and facelift bumpers are different, and many items (for example, trunk mats) are designed separately for 2017–2021 cars.
It is easier to find accessories specifically for this body style in the Peugeot 308 2014–2021 tuning section.
How the third generation (P5) differs
The third-generation Peugeot 308 was presented on March 18, 2021, and the SW wagon came out in June 2021. The body became longer and lower, a new brand logo appeared, and the i-Cockpit interior gained a 10-inch screen. All cars are assembled at the Mulhouse plant.
The lineup changed several times. At launch, the plug-in hybrids had 180 and 225 hp and a 12.4 kWh battery. In September 2022, the electric E-308 was added, including in the SW body. In spring 2024, the regular 1.2 was replaced by Hybrid 136—a 48 V mild hybrid with an e-DCS6 robotized gearbox, and in February 2025 the plug-in hybrid received a 195 hp version (1.6 turbo + 125 hp electric motor, 360 Nm).
The SW’s trunk, according to automotive publications, is about 608 L in petrol and diesel versions and 548 L in plug-in hybrids; with the seats folded—over 1,500 L. The figures vary depending on the measurement method, so compare the specific version.
What the 2025 facelift changed
Peugeot showed the updated 308 and 308 SW on August 26, 2025, with European sales starting in autumn 2025. Key points:
- Front end. Instead of the daytime running light “fangs,” there are split headlamps: three light “claws” on top, with the main lighting lower down in black inserts in the bumper. The grille is partially body-colored.
- Illuminated emblem—a first in the brand’s history.
- Lighting. The base version is fully LED, the GT gets Matrix LED with dynamic turn signals. Rear lights with “claws” are now on all versions, and the chrome inserts at the back were removed.
- Interior. The i-Cockpit with a 10-inch screen remains; the instrument graphics were updated, and over-the-air multimedia updates were added.
- SW. The rear seats fold 40:20:40, and there is an electric tailgate.
Engines: the mild-hybrid Hybrid 145 (1.2 turbo, 145 hp, e-DCS6), the 195 hp plug-in hybrid with a 17.2 kWh battery and a seven-speed e-DCS7 (according to Carscoops—up to 85 km on electric power), the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 diesel with EAT8 (availability for the SW depends on the market), and the E-308 with 156 hp, a 58.4 kWh battery (usable 55.4), and a range of about 450 km WLTP. More about the updated hatchback is in the review Peugeot 308 2025, and about the electric wagon—in the article on Peugeot E-308 SW.
What to check when buying a used 308 SW
- Petrol 1.2 PureTech. In engines of previous generations, the timing belt runs in oil; due to its premature wear and increased oil consumption, Stellantis in Europe extended the warranty from March 2024 to 10 years or 180,000 km under certain conditions (scheduled servicing). For a car imported from abroad, check the service history and the belt condition. The new 1.2 in Hybrid 136/145 has a timing chain.
- BlueHDi diesels. Check the operation of the SCR (AdBlue) system and the particulate filter—do not ignore warning messages on the instrument panel.
- Automatic. уточніть, which gearbox is installed: EAT6, EAT8, or the e-DCS robot in the hybrid, and when the oil was changed.
- Plug-in hybrid. Ask for battery health data and charging history; check that the charging cable and connector are in good condition.
- Body and trim. Verify the year and generation by VIN: this determines which headlights, bumpers, and accessories will fit.
Which accessories to choose for the 308 SW
For the wagon, most items are separate from the hatchback’s: the cabin length, rear doors, and trunk are different. That is why rear wind deflectors, the trunk mat, the rear bumper protector, and mud flaps from the HB cannot be fitted to the SW—look for the SW designation in the product name. You can choose mats in the mats for Peugeot 308 2014–2021 section, and wind deflectors among the deflectors for Peugeot 308. Accessories for the third generation are collected on the Peugeot 308 2021+ tuning page.
