Leapmotor A05 (B03 for Europe): affordable electric hatchback – battery, range, on-sale date

Leapmotor A05 is a 4.2-meter electric hatchback, on sale in China from 63,900 yuan since August 11, 2026, and coming to Europe as the Leapmotor B03 with up to 390 km WLTP range. We break down the batteries, dimensions, interior, timing, and accessories.

Leapmotor A05 is a compact electric hatchback 4.2 m long, which China’s Leapmotor launched for sale on August 11, 2026 in Hangzhou: a front motor rated at 70 or 90 kW (95 or 122 hp), 39.8 or 53 kWh LFP batteries, and a range of 405 or 510 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle. Outside China, the model will be sold by Leapmotor International—a joint venture 51% owned by Stellantis—under the name Leapmotor B03. The European division claims up to 390 km on WLTP, and deliveries in the United Kingdom are expected in the first half of 2027.

What the Leapmotor A05 is and why it is B03 in Europe

The A05 is Leapmotor’s second model on the A-series platform after the A10 crossover. In China it is a five-seat, front-wheel-drive B-segment hatchback, and the manufacturer explicitly positions it for city driving and young drivers. Its main competitor in the home market is the Geely Xingyuan (Geely EX2 in Europe), the best-selling Chinese electric car in this class.

For other markets, Leapmotor uses its own naming system: the city T03, the Leapmotor B10 crossover, the coupe-like B05, and the B03X crossover. That is why the A05 received the B03 index in Europe—it will sit below the B05 and alongside the B03X, which is the export version of the A10. The B03X is already on sale in Europe: orders opened on July 7, 2026 with prices starting at €24,900, and the motor for Europe was uprated to 145 kW.

Stellantis’ role here is key. In 2023, the group bought about 21% of Leapmotor shares for roughly €1.5 billion, and in 2024 it created Leapmotor International together with Leapmotor, headquartered in Amsterdam: 51% owned by Stellantis and 49% by Leapmotor. This venture holds exclusive rights to export, sell, and manufacture Leapmotor models outside Greater China, and sells them through Stellantis’ dealer network. British and German media place the B03 in the same category as the Renault 5 E-Tech and Volkswagen ID. Polo.

Leapmotor A05 dimensions and interior space

The Chinese A05 is 4,200 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, 1,560 mm tall, with a 2,605 mm wheelbase. For the European B03, Leapmotor quotes slightly different figures—4,175 × 1,790 × 1,560 mm with the same 2,605 mm wheelbase. That makes it a full-fledged B-class hatchback rather than a tiny city car: by length, it is closer to the “Golf class” than to the Renault 5.

The trunk of the Chinese version is 474 L; with the rear seats folded it is 1,308 L, and another 91 L is hidden in a compartment under the floor. The manufacturer counts 33 storage spots in the cabin. The rear bench cushion can be lifted to place tall cargo on the floor—a similar solution is known from the “Magic Seats” in the Honda Jazz. For the B03, there is not yet an official trunk volume measured by the European method.

Batteries, range, and charging in the Leapmotor A05

In China, the A05 is offered with two “motor + battery” combinations. Both batteries are lithium iron phosphate (LFP), but they are cooled differently: the smaller one is cooled passively, without a liquid circuit, while the larger one is liquid-cooled. This also affects DC charging speed.

The “up to 510 km” figure often quoted refers to the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is noticeably more optimistic than the European one. Leapmotor’s European division states up to 390 km on WLTP for the B03—roughly a quarter less. Whether the B03 will get a more powerful motor, like the B03X (145 kW instead of China’s 70 and 90 kW), Leapmotor has not yet said. There will be no hybrid version with a range-extender generator in the B03: according to Leapmotor, this layout is for larger cars in segment C and above.

What’s inside the Leapmotor A05 and the electronics

In front of the driver is an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster; in the center is a 14.6-inch touchscreen with 2.5K resolution. Base versions run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor; versions with LiDAR run on the Snapdragon 8650. The audio system has 12 speakers, there is V2L (powering external devices from the traction battery), LED headlights, and semi-flush door handles.

The most notable detail for the class is the roof-mounted LiDAR above the windshield. In China, it comes on versions from 85,900 yuan: with it, the car has 27 sensors (LiDAR, 3 radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 cameras) and 43 driver-assistance functions, including “door-to-door” navigation. Simpler versions make do with a camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and automatic braking. What of this the European B03 will get will be known closer to the start of sales.

When the Leapmotor B03 will arrive in Europe and how much it will cost

  • July 2026 — Leapmotor unveiled the A05, including the interior.
  • August 11, 2026 — start of sales in China, five versions priced from 63,900 to 90,900 yuan (405 Comfort — 63,900, 405 Enjoy — 67,900, 510 Enjoy — 75,900, 510 LiDAR — 85,900, 510S — 90,900).
  • October 12–18, 2026 — the B03 is listed among Leapmotor models at the Paris Motor Show 2026.
  • First half of 2027 — expected start of sales in the United Kingdom (according to the British press, already with right-hand drive).

Leapmotor has not yet announced European prices. British outlets expect pricing in the “low £20,000s” range—between the city T03 and the B05—and Spanish outlets suggest around €20,000–23,500. These are press estimates, not manufacturer data. Production plans are likewise unofficial: the Spanish press writes about future assembly of Leapmotor models at Stellantis plants in Spain, but the manufacturer has not named a specific plant or date for the B03.

Which accessories will fit the Leapmotor A05 and B03

The model is new, so there are no dedicated, model-specific products for it in the catalog yet—in the Leapmotor section, only roof rails for the C10 and C11 are currently listed. For now, the most practical solution is universal floor mats: Stingray or Polytep rubber mats with raised edges hold water and snow, and a universal 900 × 1000 mm trunk mat is easy to trim to fit the 474 L cargo floor. Model-specific EVA mats are made to patterns for a specific car, so it makes sense to choose them once the model appears in the catalog.

Window deflectors are also model-specific: they are made to the profile of a particular door, and an “almost fitting” wind deflector from another hatchback either will not sit tightly or will interfere with the glass. For the B03, it is best to look for them specifically for this model in the window deflectors section. Universal mud flaps, on the other hand, can be fitted to any hatchback—they protect the sills and rear doors from sand and road chemicals.
